There’s an infestation on my bush that goes along my driveway. The bush is about 5 ft wide and 50ft long. Two small areas are affected. I broke off a leaf and stem to look at it under a micro scope. What is this and how do I get rid of it?? I’ve tried neem oil and diatomaceous earth and it’s still there.

Normal water. Normal sun

Yikes! Sorry you’re going through this. Looks like a very severe infestation of scale and aphids. There are treatment options depending on where you live and what’s available to you. Whatever you decide, you’d likely need to drown them in it, and it will require multiple and thorough treatments.
Edit: Upon a closer look, I think they look more like white flies than aphids.

Oh no!!!! Okay okay okay, don’t panic (panicing!)…

I believe that is a very bad scale infestation. Maybe even something else like white flies….

I have never seen an infestation like this on here… is the whole bush covered!?

This is what I would suggest for someone treating their plants, however you may be dealing with a bigger scale that this could be hard to deal with.

    1. Get as much off with water as you can! Spray that baby good without harming the leaves. Use a silicone spatula or your finger nail (very carefully!) and remove as much as you. This step is so important, because scale are hard to treat when attached tk the plant, treatments can just glaze right over them.

    2. Treat your plant! This is the tricky part. Because it’s on such a large area this could be a project… I use neem oil to treat my plants. If you use neem oil, because not to use it in the middle of the day, it can burn your plants in the sun. Early morning or evening is best. I have not don’t this personally, but it’s probably the most recommended treatment I see on here. Treat with a 3 to 1 ratio of rubbing alcohol or peroxide to water. Use a cotton ball or swab to wipe down infested ares and surroundings.

Repeat this whole process until your infestation is gone. If you use neem oil, I would feel fine to do it everyday, if you use alcohol, probably only 2 times a week..? Not sure on that!

I hope this ends well for you. 🙁 If you do treat your bush and get it all back to happy, I would treat with neem oil every 2 weeks or so for prevention.

I will say we had a horrific aphid infestation on all the new growth on my Bridal’s wreath this year at our new house. I was horrified. Lasted about a month and one day, they were all gone!

I’d assume it’s something seasonal but you can take preventative measures next year!
